Hackathon Rules

Follow these essential rules to ensure your submission qualifies for the competition and meets all requirements.

Build From Scratch

All projects must be created entirely during the hackathon. Pre-existing projects are not allowed, ensuring a fair and creative competition.

Team Size Limit

Teams can have 1 member only. Hackers are allowed to use AI assistants and other tools to enhance their projects.

Build with Appwrite

All projects must use at least one Appwrite product (Auth, Databases, Storage, Messaging, Functions), with a mandatory requirement to deploy on Sites on Appwrite Cloud to qualify for judging.

Submission Deadline

All projects must be submitted by the final deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted, so plan your time wisely!

Do I need to sign up for Hacktoberfest to participate?

Yes! To be eligible for prizes and have your contributions count towards Hacktoberfest, you must register at hacktoberfest.com before participating. Registration is free and only takes a minute!
What are the exact start and end times for the hackathon?

Are AI tools and LLMs allowed?

Yes! AI tools and LLMs are rapidly becoming a core part of modern IDEs and developer tools. If such tools enable you to build better projects faster, we encourage their use to enhance your hacking experience.
What are the judging criteria?

Projects will be judged on impact of idea, creativity in design, technical execution, and usage of Appwrite.
Is it mandatory to use Appwrite products in this hackathon?

You must use at least one Appwrite product (Auth, Databases, Storage, Functions, Realtime, and Messaging), and deploy your project on Appwrite Sites (on Cloud) to qualify for judging. Aside from those, feel free to use any other developer tools, APIs, or services you prefer.
Can I use pre-built libraries or boilerplate?

Yes, you can use open-source libraries, framework boilerplate (for example, what Vite, create-next-app, or the Svelte CLI provide), and publicly available APIs and tools, as long as they are credited in your submission. Full-fledged starter kits can be accepted provided that your work demonstrates significant customization and development beyond the original template and you link to the original template in your submission.
Should my project be open-source?

Yes! The code for your project must be open-source. You must add the codebase of your project to a repo on your GitHub account, make the repo public, and share the link in your submission.
How many projects can I submit?

You can submit as many projects as you like, as long as they have been developed during the hackathon duration.
Am I allowed to submit a project in the hackathon if I am under the age of 18?

Yes, participants under the age of 18 are welcome to join the hackathon. However, they must have parental or guardian consent to participate and agree to the hackathon rules and terms.
